Should I use tetracycline for mild acne issues?
Hi, I’m a fifteen year old high school girl who has (despite not hitting puberty yet) some mild acne all over my face but mainly around the edges of my nose and T zone. They are small red pustules but they annoy the crap out of my and impact my life as I am more self conscious and introverted now. ):
I was previously using Benzaclin for about a year and I had fairly good results as my acne was better controled, but these past few months it’s gotten quite worse. I called my doctor and she prescribed my tetracycline for my acne. I looked up some reviews and saw they were very mixed. Do you think this pill will work for me? If it does work, will there be a lot of negative side effects, and if I go off this medications will my acne return or return even worse than it was when I started it??
Advice please, thanks.
I would definitely give it a shot. There shouldn’t be any negative side effects, if you notice them then discontinue use and they will subside.. but it should be very tolerable. Take with food.
Depending on the cause of the acne will determine whether it will return. Most likely, yes it will return. However, the antibiotic could eliminate the current ‘infection’ of sorts and get you back ahead of your skin so you can use the benzaclin (and good hygiene) to keep your acne from flaring up so much in the future.
Your acne is likely due to puberty coincidentally. You may not have the typical signs of puberty yet, but they are right around the corner if you have this acne. Puberty and the corresponding hormonal shifts occur quite a time before tangible noticeable changes happen on the body. So the acne is likely from pubescent hormone changes,.. and other ‘typical’ puberty results will present themselves very soon.
The acne will not return worse.
